So. I've got a question!

I've been meaning to watch both Lonesome Dove and Comanche Moon forever (never seen either before), but which is better to watch first? Lonesome Dove came out way before Comanche Moon, but isn't Comanche Moon a prequel? *never knows whether to read/watch things chronologically or in the order they were made*

Opinions?! Thanks~!

I'd watch Comanche Moom first, it is a prequel. Just one girl's opinion though. :0 )

Thanks for the advice :D. That's what I ended up doing, so yay! Loved it, and I'm on to Lonesome Dove soon. ^0^

I watched Comanche Moon first as I was to young to watch Lonesome Dove when it came out. I thought it worked well as it was in chronological order, but Lonesome Dove has enough character build that you don't need the back story to get into it. It may be good to watch L.D. first as then you know the characters and may understand better the choices they make in C.M., but I didn't have much of a problem.
In my opinion it would really depend on how you like to watch stories unfold, straight from the beginning or mixed up. Or even the actors in each one may sway you, sometimes you may love the story, but dislike the way the characters are done so much you don't want to watch it.
I'd say go with which ever attracts you most, there's no best way to watch them in my opinion.

Very helpful! I did end up watching it in chronological order (well, I haven't gotten to Lonesome Dove just yet, but... soon! *yay*) and CM was pretty understandable on it's own, like you said. It was quite great! :) Thanks!

You know, you can do the whole saga in chronological order:

1) "Dead Man's Walk" - set in the early 1840s

2) "Commanche Moon" - set in the 1850-60s

3) "Lonesome Dove" - set in mid-to-late 1870s

4) "Return to Lonesome Dove" - set a year after the above

5) "Streets of Laredo" - set in the early 1890s

All miniseries should either be on DVD, VHS or both.

Ooh, I had no idea there were so many parts to it! I just recently watched Comanche Moon first & get the feeling from the internet and such that CM and LD are the main two, though... Are the others worth watching? Any faves? &Thanks for the comment :)!

Ah! That would have been an good way to do it- just the other day I ended up watching Comanche Moon first, randomly deciding to go with the chronological aspect (forgot to respond to my post)... And I did totally get the feeling that it played on what must have been set up in Lonesome Dove, which I have yet to watch (perfect acting, eh? *yay*). Thanks v. much for the comment! :DD
